It all started in 1968…
Skyline Urban Outreach (formerly Skyline Urban Ministry, Inc.) was founded in 1974, building on outreach work that began in 1968 through the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference. Rev. Mac Thompson served as Oklahoma City Urban Minister, partnering with local churches and community agencies to support individuals and families in need and helping establish Skyline as a bridge between faith communities and the inner city.
Over time, Skyline grew from a church-connected initiative into an independent, nonsectarian human services organization. In recognition of this evolution, the Board of Directors voted to rename the organization Skyline Urban Outreach, effective January 1, 2025. While we continue to value strong partnerships with faith-based organizations across Oklahoma City, we now operate as a public charity.
A major milestone in our development was the completion of a $1 million expansion in 2014, which allowed us to consolidate services under one roof and launch a state-of-the-art Eye Clinic and a patron-choice Food Resource Center.
In 2019, we expanded further with the launch of our Mobile Pantry and Garden Program, extending access to nutritious food into underserved areas of Oklahoma City. Most recently, in 2025, Skyline completed a comprehensive facility renovation supported by ARPA funding through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. These improvements enhanced accessibility, upgraded shared spaces, and improved client flow and communication systems.
That same investment strengthened our outreach capacity through the addition of two box trucks—one for retail recovery and donation pickup and another dedicated to Mobile Pantry operations—helping Skyline serve more people, more efficiently, across our community.
